Export Model

Description

Data for the Refined Analysis structure type may be exported to an ASCII text file by clicking on the Export Model button from the Navigation Toolbar of the Explorer.

There are two types of ASCII file that can be used to export structure data, Structure Exchange File (SXF) and Drawing Interchange File (DXF).

  • Structure Exchange File (SXF)

ASCII file format used for exporting/importing structure data to/from Autodesk Structural Bridge Design. It contains all of the current structure geometry data (units, joint coordinates and member incidences). It is therefore possible to edit the file with any text editor, ready for importing modified data. The file to which the data is saved should be given the extension .sxf.

  • Drawing Interchange File (DXF)

ASCII file format of a drawing file, used by Autodesk Structural Bridge Design for exporting/importing data to/from software drawing packages. The beams and elements are exported as LINES and 3DFACES.

Outline Procedure

Clicking on the Export Model menu item displays a drop-down menu:

  • Export All:   Exports all members in the model
  • Export Current Sub Model:   Exports only the 'Sub Model Members' of the currently selected sub model.
  • Export Member Selection:   Exports only the current Member Selection Set.

Having selected from the menu then a standard Windows 'Save File' dialog is presented for file type .sxf or .dxf.

On defining the file name and clicking on the Save button the ASCII SXF or DXF file is created.
