Import cuts to share with Maya
Animators and other shot-based artists use the Cut Slider to animate in context and view shots surrounding their active scene. They can scrub between their work and others to make informed choices that improve cut continuity.
The artist uses the Cut Slider in Maya to browse cuts shared from Flow Production Tracking. With Share cuts to animate in context with Maya enabled on a new project in Flow Production Tracking, you can set up sharing cuts.
Import cuts
You set up cuts by importing them. You import cuts using the Import Cut Tool to import an EDL and its related media. For more information, see Importing a cut.
If you don't want to import a cut and just want to try sharing cuts with Maya, enable sharing cuts to animate in context with Maya on the Demo: Animation with Cuts project.
Share a cut with Maya
A cut is what artists load in the Maya Cut Slider using the Flow media browser.
For a cut to be available from Maya, you need to share it from the Media app.
Before sharing cuts, configure your project navigation with the Media app. From the Project actions dropdown, select Navigation, and add Media to the project navigation bar. For more information, see Project navigation.
Steps for sharing a cut with Maya
When sharing a cut, Cut Items influence the cut in Maya. Meaning, any metadata on cut items will drive the cut in Maya. Note that shot cut metadata won't influence the cut in Maya.
Open the project.
Open the project Media app.
Click CUTS to display the available cuts.
Select a cut in the project.
From the Cut Actions menu, select Share cut with Maya (Beta).
The cut shows Cut is shared with Maya. Maya users with access to this project can now load the cut in the Flow media browser.
The only way to stop sharing a cut is to delete the cut from Flow Production Tracking.
Cut limitations
When you use animate in context with Maya, you use the Cut Slider to see your shot in context. The Cut Slider presents you with media and information pulled form Flow Production Tracking versions and cuts. These are the current limitations:
You must have access to the project in Flow Production Tracking, and have a role that has permission to use animate in context.
Only versions linked to a task are visible in Maya. If a version is not available in the Cut Slider, you can open it in Flow Production Tracking and assign it a task.
All versions in a cut must have the same frame rate (which must be supported by Maya).
The cut shared with Maya shouldn't have more than 50 cut items.
A cut cannot be unshared: once a cut is shared, it remains shared forever. To stop a cut from being shared, you must delete it from Flow Production Tracking.
Modifying an uploaded movie or thumbnail of a Flow Production Tracking version included in the cut loaded in Maya won't be reflected in Maya. The old media or thumbnail will still be loaded.
