Global default layouts (for pages, forms, and tabs)
Contents
Global default layouts offer the most granular customization options. You can choose to change either the List, Detail, or Form layout for each entity where applicable. Be aware that not all entities will have a default Form or Detail Page depending on how they are set up in Flow Production Tracking.
These default layouts are stored on the global level which means any changes you make to them will be made outside of a template or project. When you create a new page or tab for an entity, the layout will be pulled from these stored defaults.
If you have Advanced permissions to update Default Layouts, you will be able access them from "Admin Menu > Default Layouts", or from the project entity Detail page or Form settings menu itself. If you go to Default Layouts and don't see a particular view listed, that means it's not available on that entity, or in the case of Detail pages, it may not be enabled on that entity. (See Admin Menu > Site Preferences > Entities to find if this is the case).
Global Defaults for Detail Pages and Forms:
As an example, you customise the Shot Detail page in a project and decide it would work great as the default Shot Detail view. You can turn that page into the default by going to the Page Settings menu, then selecting “Global Default Layout > Save Page as Global Default.” This will store that Shot Detail layout as the global default so it can be accessed by new or existing projects and templates.
On a Form, you can see that Save and Revert Form as Global Default options are also available in the settings (gear icon) menu:
Once you customise and save an entity's default layouts, you can apply these new settings to that entity's Detail page or Form on any project or template. This can be accomplished by selecting "Revert [Page or Form] to Global Default", overwriting the existing Detail or Form settings and replacing it with the global default layout stored for that entity.
Global Defaults for List Pages:
An entity List default layout can only be updated under "Admin Menu > Default Layouts". Once saved, anytime you make a new List page of that entity type on any project, it will create the page with this stored layout applied.
It's important to note that an entity List page works a little differently than a Detail or Form view. When you are on an entity List page in a project, you will not find the save or revert to global default options in the Page Settings menu. List pages will only take the global default layout upon their creation, and after that point it is not possible to save or revert to global default from the page.
Saving a List, Detail or Form global default will not automatically update it across all projects, it only updates the stored global default. Additionally, reverting a Detail or Form global default will not update it across all projects, only for the project you are in. If you want to push a entity default layout to all projects, it must be done on a project by project basis using the "revert" menu item on that Detail page or Form.
Customizing a Page
Using the entity "Asset" as an example, here is a description of each of the three pages: List, Detail, and Form. Note that you can format how cells or rows appear on pages.
Asset List
The Asset List is a page that lists Asset records.
Step 1: Customize the Asset List page layout
The example below shows a modified page with additional fields: Description, Levels Characters, and Tags.
Available customizations include:
- Adding view modes (Grid, Thumbnail, Canvas, URL)
- Repositioning columns, adding columns, and setting column widths
- Renaming columns, setting column header height to double-tall, and coloring column headers
- Setting sort order, grouping, and filters, etc.
- Applying page summaries
Notes on customizing:
- All page mode layout changes are saved together, so you can customize and save changes to the List, Detail, Thumbnail, and additional views all at once, even if the List view is the one currently active.
- Any page formatting, such as background colors and font-styling, that you apply here will carry over into all pages which use this default layout.
Step 2: Save your layout
To save the changes made to the List page, select “Save View As Global Default” under the Default tab.
To undo all your changes and go back to the previously saved default, before you've saved the page, choose “Revert Page To Global Default.”
Step 3: Use the default layout
Create a new Assets page to see how the default layout is applied.
The Asset List default layout is also applied to new Asset Tabs
New tabs show up with the global default layout. You can customize the layout in the tab and save the layout for the entire page.
As an example, add a new Asset tab on a Shot detail page. On this Shot page, enter Design Mode and click "New Tab". Select "Asset" as the type and then create.
Asset Detail
The Asset Detail page shows a full-page view of a single Asset.
Step 1: Customizing Detail page layouts
Go to an Asset Detail page. You can modify all the widgets and tabs on the page. When you're done, click 'Save Page As Global Default'.
Step 2: Applying Detail page default layouts
To apply an Asset Detail default layout to a page, go to an Asset detail page, click on the page icon in the top right of the page, then choose Global Default Layout > Revert Page To Global Default.
Asset Form
The Asset Form is the page view to create new Assets.
Some entity types have the Form page turned off, such as Event Log, simply because these entities are never created in the UI.
Step 1: Customizing Form layouts
To customize the Asset Form, navigate to either Default Layouts > Asset > Asset Form under your profile picture, or create a new Asset on the Asset page (as shown below). Then click the gear menu on the form, then choose ‘Configure layout...’. Add fields, and set the properties on each field, such as display order and fields that are required for creation.
When you're done, click “Apply” and then select the “Save Form as Global Default” link on the form. This layout will be used everywhere in the system for creating new Assets (unless you choose “Save Form,” in which case the form will only apply to your current project).
Step 2: Applying Form layouts
The Asset Form global default layout is automatic and is applied as soon as you save the form’s layout.
