Screening Room

asterisk Contents

Screening Room takes your review to the next level with more robust navigation and the ability to view work in context of surrounding media. You can also leverage Screening Room within RV through the Screening Room for RV integration. This allows you to review hires, uncompressed media, and local media, and still stay connected to all your important Flow Production Tracking data.

Screening Room builds upon the Overlay Player by adding browsing and contextual playback functionality. There are two flavors of Screening Room:

  • Screening Room Web, for playback and review of media you’ve uploaded to Flow Production Tracking via your browser, and
  • Screening Room for RV, for playback and review of high resolution source files that are live on your local network.

To get set up with Screening Room for RV, go to the Apps menu in Flow Production Tracking and select RV Desktop Media Player. Once downloaded, install RV and sign in with your Flow Production Tracking account. All Flow Production Tracking subscribers get free access to RV and the Screening Room for RV integration.

Launching Screening Room or Screening Room for RV

From within the Overlay Player, click on the action_icon_5_4.jpg icon and select “View in Screening Room” or “View in Screening Room for RV”.

From the Apps menu in the Global navigation, choose “Screening Room” to launch the web app.

If you have set up Screening Room’s RV integration, then it can be launched via the Flow Production Tracking menu in the RV interface.

Making Versions

If you don’t yet have any Versions to play, click the [+] button in the toolbar. Flow Production Tracking automatically media. You can also set up transcoding yourself.

column_browser.png

The column browser is the main method of navigation in Screening Room.

When you first open Screening Room, you’ll begin at the top level, or Home level, of the column browser. Screening Room remembers where you were in the navigation the last time you used it and will lead you there the next time you use it. Some things to keep in mind:

  • Clicking on a tab with an Arrow leads to another level of navigation. Tabs without arrows load Versions in the Timeline.
  • Clicking on the Favorite Tab adds a tab to your favorites. Click Browse Favorites to see and select from your favorite tabs.
Tip:

You can also navigate by clicking on any level of the navigation bar to choose a different path.

Nav Bar

All ProjectsChoose a ProjectProject Tree

The All Projects bar allows you to browse the Projects Tree, which mirrors the structure of your Flow Production Tracking navigation. Select a Project, then select from Sequences/Shots, Assets, Playlists, and Version Pages.

All Versions

The All Versions tab shows you all Versions available at each level of the navigation. The top level of the column browser will display all the Versions available across the whole Flow Production Tracking server. Once you navigate into a Project, the All Versions tab there shows all Versions for that Project, and so on, down to All Versions tabs associated with individual Sequences, Shots, and Assets.

Version pages saved in Flow Production Tracking can be viewed in Screening Room, via the “Version Pages” tab under any Project (or the Global Version Pages tab). These pages act like “smart” Playlists, dynamically loading Versions from Flow Production Tracking that match the filters saved with the page . As an example, you might have Version pages that show all Versions with a status of “pending review”, or those submitted by artists in the Animation department in the last week.

Tip:

You can quickly hide or show the panes in Screening Room by typing “b” (for Browser / Timeline) or “d” (for Details).

Global Version PagesGlobal Version Pages

The Global Version Pages tab works like the more commonly-used Version Pages tab within a Project. The only difference is that Global Version Pages are not specific to a single Project. They can contain Versions from multiple different Projects. Saving Global Version Pages in Flow Production Tracking makes them immediately accessible in Screening Room.

Tip:

A quick way to find the Versions you need is to load All Versions, then use the Filter Panel to narrow down the results to the Versions you need to play. You might filter for a particular department, or a certain Sequence or Asset type. This is also helpful for people who track things other than Shots and Assets.

Search and filter

Type keywords in the Search bar to find one or more specific Versions.

Open the Filter Panel by clicking the search icon on the right side of the toolbar. Use the Filter Panel, just as you would in Flow Production Tracking, to narrow down the Versions displayed on the page.

Playing Multiple Versions

Timeline Browser

The Timeline Browser is where you select and launch the Versions you want to play. Right-click to choose “Play Selected” or “Play All in Timeline”. You can also select multiple Versions and play them in sequence.

Views

Use the buttons displayed above to select a View.

  • Timeline View shows your Sequence linearly in the order you choose using the Sort menu.
  • Gallery View gives you a sortable, vertically scrolling layout.
  • Cut View works like Timeline View, but automatically shows the Versions in the order they appear in the cut (based on the “Cut Order” field on the Shot linked to each Version).

Click on Sort to set how the Versions in the Timeline are sorted.

By default, Timeline View and Cut View show only the most recently created Version for each Shot or Asset. When reviewing Shots specifically, you can turn on History Mode by clicking on History Mode . This shows prior Versions in the timeline as well. You can double-click on any previous Version to play it, or right-click and choose “Move Selected to Timeline” to assemble an alternate cut. Then click “Play All in Timeline” to view the cut you’ve assembled.

Note:

The Versions between the blue bars are the active Versions that will be played in the cut.

Playlists

Like Versions, Playlists created in Flow Production Tracking can be loaded in Screening Room by choosing the “Playlists” tab within any Project in the column browser. You can also type the Playlist name in the Search bar to jump to a specific Playlist.

Create Playlist

To create a Playlist from a Version page in Flow Production Tracking, select one or more Versions, right-click, and choose “Add to New Playlist”. Name the Playlist and fill out any other required fields, and then click “Create Playlist”.

You can also create and edit Playlists from within Screening Room. Right-click on any selection of Versions and choose one of the Playlist-related options. You can create a new Playlist, add to an existing Playlist, or remove Versions from Playlists, all via the right-click menu.

Accessing specific Versions via direct URLs

If you need to send a link to a client or director to open a Version, Playlist, Asset, Sequence, Shot, or Version page directly in Screening Room, use this format:

  • https://my-site.shotgunstudio.com/page/review_app_webview?entity_type=Playlist&entity_id=10
  • https://my-site.shotgunstudio.com/page/review_app_webview?entity_type=Asset&entity_id=10
  • https://my-site.shotgunstudio.com/page/review_app_webview?entity_type=Sequence&entity_id=10
  • https://my-site.shotgunstudio.com/page/review_app_webview?entity_type=Shot&entity_id=10
  • https://my-site.shotgunstudio.com/page/review_app_webview?entity_type=Page&entity_id=10

Replace my-site.shotgunstudio.com with your Flow Production Tracking URL, and add the entity ID after “entity_id=” (examples show entity ID 10 for each example above).

The Details Pane

The Details Pane is the panel on the right-hand side of Screening Room. It contains the Info Pane, Related Versions, and Notes Tool. The data in these panels can be customized to display the information that is most useful for you during review sessions. This information is relevant for both the Screening Room App and Screening Room for RV.

Details_Pane.png

Info Pane

The Info Pane contains information about the current, or pinned, Version you are viewing. By default the pane is contracted to save screen space. You can expand and contract it either by clicking the thumbnail or the “More info/Hide info” link. When contracted, only the Version name and Link are visible.

info_panel.png

After expanding, you can add and view any Field belonging, or linked to, the Version entity.

info_pane_more_fields.png

The Related Versions tab shows all Versions linked to the same entity as the Version currently being viewed. For example, if you are reviewing a Version linked to a Shot, you will see all other Versions linked to that same Shot in this tab. What is displayed, and how it is displayed, can be customized.

related_versions.png

Sort

Clicking the Sort link provides a list of fields which may be used to sort the Related Versions. By default the Versions are sorted ascending by the ID field.

Group

Versions may be grouped for easier visual navigation. Click the Group link to select from a list of Fields. For example, you could group by Artist to quickly browse to find a Version submitted by a specific user.

Fields

Just like the Info Pane, fields which belong, or are linked to, the Version entity can be exposed by clicking the fields link and selecting from the list of fields.
