Transcoding services

The transcoding service converts material users upload into a placeholder version suitable for streaming playback and scrubbing. It also generates thumbnails of different sizes.

Below is a non-exhaustive list of supported codecs and formats suitable for transcoding. Additional formats not mentioned may be supported, and this page may be updated periodically.

Supported file sizes

Flow Production Tracking is designed to track individual Assets, Shots, and small movie sequences. The file transcoding process is optimized for files of 5GB or less. Flow Production Tracking may not be able to transcode larger files.

If you are working with large movie sequences that need to be transcoded, we suggest first creating a lower resolution file that can be transcoded. Note that Flow Production Tracking can still track the location of the original file (e.g., local file location), if needed.

Maximum Resolution for Still Image Formats

Flow Production Tracking’s transcoding service is optimized to handle still image resolutions up to 8K (7,680 x 4,320 pixels), and supports some file formats.

For more information, see "Do it yourself (DIY) transcoding."

Monitoring Transcoding Services Performance

If you have access to the Site Activity Monitor, you can monitor the preformance of the transcoding services from the transcoder view.
