Perform Takeoff on 2D Sheets

You can perform takeoff on a 2D sheet from the Takeoff Types panel in the Takeoff viewer.

To perform takeoff on a 2D sheet

  1. While viewing a 2D sheet, open the Takeoff Types panel by clicking the Takeoff Types icon in the left navigation.

  2. In the Takeoff Types list, select the takeoff type to use for takeoff. The selected takeoff type is associated with your takeoff items.

    • 3D (BIM) takeoff types are gray and inactive for takeoff while you’re viewing a 2D sheet, but can still be viewed and edited in the Takeoff Types list.
  3. On the sheet opened in the viewer, use the tools to count or draw areas or lines to measure the object for takeoff.

Note: Based on settings for the takeoff type, the appropriate drawing tool is highlighted in the toolbar.

Takeoff objects are automatically saved and takeoff items appear in the detailed view for the takeoff type and in the inventory for the package.

Copy and Paste Takeoff Between 2D Sheets

You can copy and paste takeoff from one sheet to another sheet in a different package, enabling you to move or reuse takeoff without having to perform the same takeoff again.

For example, you might use copy and paste takeoff to separate work into multiple packages as the project grows, or reuse drawn takeoff shapes in another scope of work in a similar area to save time.

To copy and paste takeoff between 2D sheets in different packages

  1. On the source sheet, select the takeoff objects you want to copy.

  2. Right click the object to open the context menu and select Copy takeoff to copy the selected takeoff.

  3. Switch packages from the Package dropdown at the top of the page, and then open the desired target sheet.

  4. Right click the target sheet to open the context menu.

  5. Select Paste takeoff.

The takeoff will be pasted to the target sheet. Takeoff items are pasted in the same location on the target sheet as in the source sheet.

Note:

The size of takeoff items does not change when pasted onto a sheet with a different scale setting.

Takeoff types are automatically created for pasted takeoff items in the target package. The newly created takeoff types include all the attributes of the original takeoff types, and any user input values are maintained.

If there already is a takeoff type with the same Name and Tool combination in the target package, the new takeoff type name will be incremented. For example, '5 -Specialties' would become '5- Specialties (1)' when incremented. Use the Reassign takeoff command in the context menu to assign the takeoff to a desired takeoff type if you don't want to use the new incremented takeoff type.
