Delete an item version
Upchain enables you to delete an item version. The item version and any CAD files, drawings, and supporting documentation associated with the item version are permanently deleted from the tenant. This means that you may subsequently create the item version again.
You may choose to delete an item version if the item version was created accidentally. This could happen if a new item was created incorrectly or a released item was revised accidentally.
Requirements
To be able to delete an item version, the following must be true:
- You must be logged in as a Tenant Administrator. The Tenant Admin role must be your primary role.
- The item version must be in a Development state.
- The item version must not be locked in any way.
- The item version must not have been included in any business processes, such as an Investigation request or Change request.
- The item version must be the latest item version.
- The BOM table must be using the As Saved filter.
Delete an item version
Locate the item version you want to delete.
Click the more actions icon (
) next to the item and select Admin > Delete.
Upchain shows a warning message indicating that you are about to delete the item and its associated files.
Click Delete.
Note: You may click Cancel if you do not want to delete the item version.
The selected item version and its associated CAD files, drawings, translations, and supporting documents are deleted from the tenant. An email is sent to the item creator that the item version was deleted.
Further considerations
If the deleted item version’s CAD file version was used in an assembly, you’ll still see a record of the CAD file in the assembly’s cBOM in the web app. This is because the cBOM is only updated using the CAD plugin; the deletion process in the web app does not update cBOM references. You must now check out the assembly, open it in your CAD system, then check the assembly back in.
If you deleted the first version of an item and now want to create a new item that uses the same CAD file used in the deleted item version, you must ensure that any old versions of the CAD file, drawings, and translations are deleted from your home folder before proceeding.
If the item version deleted was the first version of the item, you may reuse the item number. Upchain will not attempt to automatically reuse this number again during subsequent item creations. However you may create the item in the web app and manually type in the item number. You must be a Tenant Administrator to do this.
