Categorization
Categorization is useful for organizing your items by attributes specific to the category of item that they belong to. The categorization tab enables you to add categories and subcategories, and create attributes for those categories. Any categorization you add here may be used in an item’s detail view to enable quicker and more accurate searches.
View existing categories and attributes
- Navigate to Administration > Engineering > Categorization.
All existing categories are listed here — click the category name to open its detail view, which displays all attributes in that category. You can then expand the attributes to view their individual details.
Add a category
- Click Add category.
- Name the category.
- Click the checkmark.
The category is added to the categorization table.
Add a sub-category
- Hover your cursor over the category and click the add icon (
).
- Name the subcategory.
- Click the checkmark.
The sub-category is added below the parent category.
Change the category name
- Hover your cursor over the category and click the edit icon (
).
- Enter the new category name.
- Click the checkmark.
Create a new categorization attribute
Once you've created a category, you should add attributes to the category that may be applied to items. This makes it easier for your users to classify and search for items.
Click the category in the list.
In the detail view that opens, click Create attribute.
Enter an attribute label. This is the name of the categorization attribute.
Select an attribute type. This determines the type of data that the user may enter into this attribute for each item.
- Free text: User enters a string of numbers and letters for the value.
- Decimal: User enters a decimal value.
- Date: User selects a date as the value.
- Number: User enters an integer value.
- drop-down: User selects a value from a drop-down.
- Checkbox: User selects or deselects the value.
(Optional) If the attribute type selected is drop-down, enter the drop-down values.
- Type in the name of the first value into the Values field.
- Click Add more to add more values.
- Click the Delete icon (
) next to a value to delete it.
Click Create.
Edit an attribute
- Click the category in the list.
- Click the attribute you want to edit.
- Click Edit.
- Make the desired changes.
- Click Save.
Delete an attribute
- Click the category in the list.
- Locate the attribute you want to delete, and click the delete icon (
) to the right of the attribute name.
- Click Delete.
Delete a category
- Hover your cursor over the category and click the delete icon (
).
- Click Delete.
