Quick search in the web app

Quick search gives you a quick way to locate items, documents (non-CAD files), and activities across all projects.

Note: Your Tenant Administrator may enable the tenant property show.items.from.private.projects.in.search so that items from private projects are shown in your search results. However, you may not view their details or perform any actions on them.

Upchain searches across the following attributes:

  • For an item:

    • Item name
    • Item number
    • Legacy number
    • Manufacturer part number
  • For a document (non-CAD files):

    • Document name
    • Document number
  • For an activity*:

    • Activity name

*Activities here include requirements, requirement tasks, quality assurance processes, quality assurance tasks, and project management activities.

  1. Click the Search field located in the header from any page (except Project management, Requirements, and Quality assurance).

  2. Enter your search criteria.

You may use the (*) wildcard in your search. For example, enter 123 to search for items, documents, and activities where 123 is at the start of one of the searched-for attributes. Enter *123 to search for items, documents, and activities where 123 appears anywhere in the searched-for attributes.

  3. Click the magnifying glass magnifying glass or press Enter.

Search results are displayed in a table organized into the following sections:

  • Activities
  • Documents
  • BOM

Upchain warns you if there are more than 1000 search results and the search is canceled. You may provide new search criteria in the Quick search window or use an Advanced search.

Click on a search result listed under Activities or Documents to open the object directly in its location in Upchain.

If the object is an item, click the item to view its item details pane on the right in the Quick search window (if you have permission to do so). You may then click the item's name at the top of its item details pane to open the item in its BOM location. If it does not belong to any projects, Upchain displays a message indicating this.

Based on your license type, you may complete one or more of the following actions from Quick search:

  • Click Copy copy icon to copy items and documents to your clipboard. You may then paste the object in another location.
  • Click Create new create new to create a new requirement, QA process, or project task that will be linked to the selected item in the search results.
Note: If you do not have the required permissions to an object, you'll receive a message indicating this and the icons to Copy and Create new will not be available.
