Copy, move, and remove items

Use the copy, move, and remove functions to manipulate the eBOM in the BOM section of a project.

Important: Any manipulation of the eBOM in the web application does not change the cBOM. The cBOM can only be change in the corresponding CAD software system and updated in Upchain using the CAD plugin.
Tip: View the Where used tab of the item to see all eBOMs and projects in which the item is being used.

Copy an item

When you copy an item and paste it in a different location, several things happen:

  • The copied item is retained at the source location.
  • The copied item now belongs to more than one eBOM.

In other words, a new item is not created. Rather, the item is now being referenced by more than one eBOM. If the item is modified at one location, the changes is seen at all locations because it is the same item.

An item may be copied from the BOM section of a project or from a Quick search or Advanced search.

The Move function does several things:

It behaves like the "cut" function in a Windows file explorer.

You can move an item to be a child under a parent item or as an end item of a project.
