Substitute an item
The Substitute item attribute indicates which other item in the system can be used as this item's substitute part. This attribute is filled in with the substitute item's item number.
For example, if part A is made obsolete and part B is the item to use instead going forward, then the Substitute item attribute on part A would be filled in with part B's item number.
Note: This attribute may be configured for items that are in Development, Released, or Obsolete states - as long as its parent item is still in Development.

Update an eBOM to use a substitute item
Note:
- Before you start, ensure that you have configured the Substitute Item attribute.
- You cannot update the eBOM structure of a released item.
Important:
- Substitution is performed only for the eBOM structure in which the action is taken. If the substituted item is used within other eBOM structures each substitution needs to be completed manually.
- The cBOM stucture still references the old item. You must update the cBOM using the relevant CAD software and push the change to Upchain using the CAD plugin.
In the BOM table, select the item you want to substitute.
