Change requests (CR)

A change request (CR) is a business process used to define a set of affected items to be released. A change request may also be used to obsolete items and update an item's maturity level.

The default system change request workflow has the following steps:

  1. Updates the CR status to Work in Progress.
  2. Updates the item statuses to Approval Pending.
  3. Sends a task to the Project Manager to approve or reject the release request.
  4. Release the items. This updates their status to Released automatically.
  5. Update the CR status to Completed and the workflow ends.

The workflow also has a built in pathway should the release step fail for any reason.

However, you may configure more detailed workflows to suit your needs and involve other users and departments.

Important: When sending an item to a CR, all of its child items are automatically added to the CR as well. In other words, if you want to release an assembly, you must release its children before or at the same time as the parent assembly. Conversely, if you want to edit a child item, you must also edit its parent items as well.
