Open a document in the PDF viewer

Open a project document in the PDF viewer

  1. Open the Documents section of the project.
  2. Click the chevron (chevron) beside the document category and folder until you locate the document you want to view.
  3. Beside the document you want to open, click more actions (more actions) > Open PDF Viewer.

The document is converted to a PDF (if it is not already a PDF) and opens in the PDF viewer.

Open a linked document in the PDF viewer

A document may be linked to another document. As long as the linked document is in a viewable file format, you may follow these steps to view the linked document in the PDF viewer:

  1. Open the Documents section of the project.

  2. Click the chevron (chevron) beside the document category and folder until you locate the document that contains the linked document you want to view.

  3. Select the document.

    The document details pane opens.

  4. Select the Linked documents and translations tab (linked docs tab).

  5. In the Linked Documents section, click more actions (more actions) > Open PDF Viewer.

The document is converted to a PDF (if it is not already a PDF) and opens in the PDF viewer.

Open a translation document in the PDF viewer

If a document is of a file format that is not supported by the PDF viewer, a translation document that is supported by the PDF viewer may be associated with it. For example, if an Adobe Illustrator file is managed in Upchain, the .AI file may be accompanied by its translation as a PDF or image file. While the .AI file is not viewable in the PDF viewer, the translation file is viewable.

If a translation is available for a document you may follow these steps to view the translation:

  1. Open the Documents section of the project.

  2. Click the chevron (chevron) beside the document category and folder until you locate the document that contains the linked document you want to view.

  3. Select the document.

    The document details pane opens.

  4. Select the Linked documents and translations tab (linked docs tab).

  5. In the Translations section, click View (view).

The document is converted to a PDF (if it is not already a PDF) and opens in the PDF viewer.

Open a document associated with an item in the PDF viewer

Items may contain additional supporting documents. If a document is in a viewable file format, you may follow these steps to view the document in the PDF Viewer:

  1. Open the BOM section of the project.

  2. Locate the item that contains the document you want to view and click it in the BOM table.

    The item details pane opens.

  3. Open the Documents tab.

  4. In the Documents section, locate the document you want to open.

  5. Beside the document you want to open, click more actions (more actions) > Open PDF Viewer.

The document is converted to a PDF (if it is not already a PDF) and opens in the PDF viewer.

Open an item's drawing or translation in the PDF viewer

Items may contain drawings and drawing translations in addition to a CAD model. If a file is in a viewable file format, you may follow these steps to view the file in the PDF Viewer:

  1. Open the BOM section of the project.

  2. Locate the item that contains the document you want to view and click it in the BOM table.

    The item details pane opens.

  3. Open the Documents tab.

  4. In the Specification documents section, locate the file you want to open.

  5. Beside the document you want to open, click View (view).

Alternatively, in the Files column of the BOM table, double-click the drawing or translation icon to load it into the PDF viewer.

The drawing or translation is converted to a PDF (if it is not already a PDF) and opens in the PDF viewer.
