Clone an item

  1. Open the CAD model you wish to clone in your CAD software and refresh the cBOM view.

  2. Right-click the item you want to clone and select Copy.

    • Cancel, Clone and Replace are displayed at the top.
  3. Select the items you want to clone.

If you select an assembly to clone, you can also clone its components at the same time. Autodesk recommends that you clone any phantom components.

Tip: Right-click the top level box to select items by status.
  4. Click Clone.

    • Upchain begins the copying process and opens the copied file into your CAD software. If you chose more than one item to clone, you may have to choose which file to open. If you chose an assembly and several of its components, you'll want to open the assembly to complete the process.
  5. Refresh the cBOM view.

    • The new item appears as 'Not Registered' with an orange icon next to it indicating a new item is about to be created.
  6. Right-click the cloned item and select Check in (or Save).

  7. In the Project selection window, choose the location for the new item.

    • The CAD Check in window opens and indicates with a green icon that new items are about to be created.
  8. In the CAD Check in window, click OK.

The new item is created and placed in the location you chose.

Tip: You can check the cloned item's Where used > Genealogy section to see from which item it was copied.
