Update item attributes
The Office plugin for Excel enables you to modify the item attributes of a BOM in bulk, if desired.
Before you start
You may find it useful to first export the BOM that contain the items you intend on updating. To do this:
Open a blank Excel spreadsheet.
In the Upchain plugin, select a project from the drop-down list.
Open the BOM view
.
Locate the BOM that contains the items you intend on updating.
Right-click the desired item and select Insert eBOM into document.
The BOM fields picker window opens.
Select the columns you wish to include in the table to be updated in Upchain.
- Select Check all/none to quickly select every item attribute or none.
- Select/deselect an item attribute one by one.
- (Optional) Click Select template to use an existing template with preselected item attributes. Templates are created when importing a BOM using the Upchain for Excel plugin.
Click OK.
The BOM is exported to the spreadsheet. You may now work through the spreadsheet and update the item attributes as desired.
Update item attributes
Open the Excel spreadsheet with the BOM structure.
In the Upchain plugin, select a project from the drop-down list.

Note: The column names do not need to match the item attribute names in Upchain. For each column in your spreadsheet (shown in the Source column), select the desired item attribute in Upchain to which it is to be mapped and updated (shown in the Destination column).
Note: You must select a column to map to the Item Name attribute and to the Item Number attribute so that Upchain knows which items to update.(Optional) If you know this column mapping may be reused in the future, click Save, enter a name for the mapping template in Template name pop-up window and click OK.
Click Next.
A window opens displaying the spreadsheet values on the left and the attributes that Upchain will update on the right. A pencil icon indicates which items will be updated.
Confirm that everything looks correct.
Click Import.
You will receive a confirmation message that the data was successfully updated in Upchain.
