Create a project from a template

Project templates enable you to create projects from a standard project layout and pre-populate many areas of the new project with a full set of activities, team members, documents, and BOM items.

Note: You cannot create a template from a project. If you think most of your projects will contain similar content, consider creating a project template early on.

Create a project template

  1. In the main header, click Create project and select Template from the drop-down list.

The Create new Project window opens. See Create and activate a project for a full description of each field.

  2. Fill in the required fields (marked with asterisks), then click Create.

The project template is created but remains in a Draft state.

Now you can start adding activities, documents, BOM items, and team members to the template, as you would with any other project.

Activate a project template

Before you can use a project template, you need to activate it.

  1. Open the Project settings (project settings) at the bottom of the project sidebar.

  2. In the Project Workflow section, click Start Workflow.

The project template status is still in Draft.

  3. In the Project Workflow section, click Activate.

The project template status is now Active and ready to use.

Use a project template

  1. In the main header, click Create project.

  2. Select your desired project type from the drop-down list.

The Create new Project window opens. See Create and activate a project for a full description of each field.

  3. In the Template drop-down list, select a template.

  4. (Optional) Under Copy from template:, select the checkbox next to the corresponding objects you want to copy to the new project.

  5. Fill in the other required fields (marked with asterisks), then click Create.
