Fixed issues and new features in Upchain 23.1

Overview

The 23.1 release of Upchain is being progressively rolled out over the course of several weeks. Fixed and new issues are summarized here by date.

Upgrading the CAD Plugin

You may upgrade your CAD Plugin to 23.1 to receive the newest capabilities. Upchain Web 23.1 is backward compatible with the CAD Plugin version 22.2.

The latest version of the Upchain CAD Connector is available for download on the Plugins page immediately following the service update made to the maintenance window.

CAD Plugins

• Fixed an issue where PDFs would have incorrect order of pages after releasing an item.

Plugins

CAD:

• Fixed an issue where item attributes were incorrectly disabled and were not available for editing in the cBOM view.
• Fixed an issue where checkin was failing for items with custom properties after the copy option had been used on them.

Solidworks:

• Fixed an issue where toolbox parts would stay unregistered after using create items, or when refreshing after download.
• Fixed an issue where assemblies containing external references would end up with broken links after create items was used.

Supported CAD software

• Autocad 2024 is now supported.

Plugins

• CAD Plugin: Change description has been renamed to File Description to better identify where the description will be applied.

• CAD Plugin: When a file download is started, the plugin will check if the file is checked out by the user.

  If it is checked out and also present in the Home folder, the plugin will deselect the file in the Download window.

  If it is checked out and not present in the home folder, the plugin will select the file in the Download window and download it to the Home folder.

• CAD Plugin: Fixed an issue in the CAD Plugin download window where the Read-Only flag was set incorrectly for files checked out by the user.

• Solidworks: Solidworks 2023 is now supported.

• Solidworks: During DWG generation, the Scale output 1:1 option will be temporarily disabled to fix an issue with PDF generation.

• Solidworks: During DWG generation, the Export all sheets to one file option will be temporarily used for Multiple sheet drawing settings. This fixes an issue where the DWG file wasn't being attached to the item at check in.

• Solidworks: Fixed an issue where checking in the assembly containing toolbox parts failed in the item view.

Plugins

• General fixes and stability improvements.
• CAD Connector: Fixed an issue where PDF files were treated as being in use and could not be generated.

Workflow

• Fixed an issue where, when editing a change notice, the Quick View pane would not open when clicking a non-editable column.

Interface

• In Where Used, you can now right-click links to open them in a new browser tab.
• In advanced search, you can now look for item versions or projects using supplier attributes such as Name, Email, Description, or Status.

CAD Plugins

• BOM Wizard

  • The interface is now persistent. This means that each time the dialog opens, it will be in the same location with the same size settings. This is the case even after installing a new version of the plugin.
  • Better memory management
  • Improved performance when resolving the BOM
  • Improved look-and-feel consistent with the CAD Plugin interface
  • Improved support for high-resolution monitors
  • Improved anomaly resolution
  • Now displays the dialog on the same screen as the CAD application

• When the project/item picker is shown, it inherits rules for item representation set in the plugin settings. The result is that item representation in the picker will look similar to existing cbom, ebom, and project BOM views.

  • This settings can only be changed by a tenant administrator.
  • Representation does not include Lock status and Drawing associated.

• SOLIDWORKS: You can now include suppressed components in copy, clone, or replace.

Workflow

• Fixed an issue where duplicate item names were showing in the My Locked Objects list after checking out items with multiple projects.
• You can now remove a locked item if its Development-state parent is unlocked.
• Fixed an issue where items from an unregistered assembly could not be checked out.

Plugins

• The generic plugin will now read the structure of SOLIDWORKS suppressed files and import the whole structure. The structure of suppressed components will not be visible in the cBOM view after refresh, but it will be visible in the BOM wizard view during checkin.
• Added a tenant property named enable.prioritize.custom.property.over.file.property for the Inventor plugin. When enabled, if a custom property and file property have the same name, Upchain will prioritize the custom property over the file property.
• Fixed an issue where Upchain was creating new versions for phantom files on copy or clone, even if they were not selected.
• Fixed an issue where item and ebom attributes could be edited on released, checked-out items. Now plugins will not allow this.

REST-API

• Fetching ECN orphaned items is optimized, resulting in better performance (2-4x faster resolution), especially in cases when ECN has many items.
• To ensure availability, stability, and quality of service for cloud users, Autodesk has introduced a rate limiter for the Upchain Rest API. This sets the maximum number of API calls a tenant or Client ID can make per minute.
• Tenant administrators can now call /api/investigation-requests/v1/projects/{projectId}/investigation-requests/actions/create.

General

• Fixed an issue where, after opening the 3D Viewer link from an exported Excel file, the Drawing button would not work.

Reports

• Tenant administrators can now upload and modify custom Jasper report templates through Upchain Web administration and REST API. For details, see Custom Reports.

• Additional attributes are now available for change notice reports:

  • CN creation date
  • CN modification date
  • CN approved date
  • CN approved by
  • CN workflow
  • CN Type
  • CN Assignees
  • CN Description
  • cn_createdBy

  To see the new attributes in your CN report, edit the jrxml template and upload it.

Performance

Improved performance when loading project data, including:

• Main Dashboard
• Project Quick Preview
• Project Dashboard (getting user assignments and dashboard data for projects)
• Quick Search - Activities

Workflow

Fixed an issue where attempting to release a parent item for which the child has been deleted was causing an error.

Workflow

• Fixed an issue where if an item was used in multiple assemblies and its maturity was changed in one of them, there would be duplicate records of the maturity change. Now only one record is added.

Tenant Properties

• Fixed an issue where you could add an end item and child item to a change request even if the tenant property create.cr.skip.verification.is.item.on.project was not enabled.

Performance

• Improved Upchain cloud Vault stability, security, and performance. Download is up to 43% faster for up to 500 users with up to 10000 requests per user.

• Tenant administrators can assign the following new roles:

  • Process Engineer
  • Industrial Engineer
  • Supplier Quality Manager
  • Software Lead
  • Software Engineer
