Creating Factory Members

Use these best practices to create factory members.

iAssembly Workflows

When creating factory members, use the following workflow to avoid assembly updates when opening or placing an iAssembly or iPart.

Handling Part Numbers

Apply file numbering schemes to Factory members to automate part number creation.

Recommended: Use Vault Data Standard to apply numbering schemes and enforce user input for certain properties. Administrators can configure Data Standard to reserve a number range for parts.

This is the best way to standardize the creation process and ensure that related parts are grouped by number.

Share Numbering Schemes for Items and Files

Optimize data management of related items and files by sharing numbering schemes. Use Data Standard to reserve number ranges.

When creating a new iPart, perform these steps:
  1. Go to the Add Member table, copy the file name, and paste it into the Member field.

  2. Insert rows for additional members as needed.
  3. Modify the values for the added member rows.

  4. Use Data Standard in Vault to reserve a range of numbers.

  5. Copy the reserved numbers and paste them into the Part Number column in the member table.

  6. Right-click on the new members in the Model Browser and select Generate Files.
  7. Check the new member files into Vault.

Avoid Pending Updates in Top Level iAssemblies with These Steps

  • Use Bottom Up approach to populate all changes to the top level iAssembly.
  • Test your members before releasing.
  • Use rebuild all on persistent dirty files.
  • Don't Use Administrative override.
