Lifecycle State Administration

Learn about creating and customizing lifecycle states.

Note: This feature is available only in Autodesk Vault Professional.

A lifecycle state represents a certain point in the lifecycle of vault data. Common lifecycle states include work-in-progress, review, and released.

You can customize individual state behavior for lifecycle definitions by performing any of these tasks:

Note: All PDF files created for document control are automatically assigned to the Design Representation category. A dedicated category allows administrators to manage their rules, lifecycles, and properties independent of the associated design files.

For syncing State and maintaining Lifecycle Definition at Design Representation Process, PDF file will sync accordingly to the following cases:

  • Sync State to Released State transition on a drawing file results in Released State on a PDF file.

  • Sync State to Obsolete state transition on a drawing file results in Obsolete State on a PDF file.

  • Sync State to Any other State transition on a drawing file results in Work in Progress State on a PDF file.

Note: This automatically changes the state of the PDF file when the source file is transitioned to any other state.
  • Sync State to Any other State transition on a drawing file results in Custom Lifecycle State on a PDF file.
