Copy Folder

Copy the folder structure within a vault without copying files.

Use the Copy Folder functionality to copy folders, including subfolders, folder permissions, and properties to efficiently start a new project from a previous folder structure. It is an effective way to consistently organize your data across many projects.

Note: You need certain permissions to perform the copy folder operation. Administrator may need to create a special role with required permissions for the copy folder action, see Roles and Permissions.
Important: This topic is intended for Vault Professional users.

To copy a folder structure:

  1. Right-click the folder you want to copy and select Copy Folder. Alternatively, click the Copy Folder icon on the Vault ribbon. The Copy Folder dialog opens.

  2. Enter the new folder name.

Note: Only the main folder name will be renamed to the new folder name at the copy location and all subfolders, if selected, will retain the subfolder name.
  3. Select the folder location.

    • Click the ellipses (...) button next to the Copy To field to select the destination location.
    • Click OK.
  4. Select the Working Folder check box to download a copy of the folder structure to a local working folder.

  5. Optionally, select the check box to include:

    • Subfolders: Select to copy subfolders along with the main folder to the destination folder.

Note: You need "Folder Read" and "Folder Create" permissions to copy folders and subfolders.
    • Permissions: Select to copy folder permissions. Subfolder permissions are also copied if the Subfolders check box is selected.

Note: You need "ACL Read" and "ACL Write" permissions for this option.

The Category applies state-based permissions the folder is in.

    • Properties: Select to copy folder properties. Subfolder properties are also copied if the Subfolders check box is selected.

Note: You need "Folder Add & Remove User Defined Property" permission for this option.

The source folder's category is always copied irrespective of this check box selection. By selecting the Properties check box, other properties (values) are copied.

  6. Click Copy to initiate the copy folder operation or click Cancel to terminate the copy folder action.

If you need to terminate the copy operation during the copy progress, click Cancel.

Note: If you select Cancel, some folders may have been copied to the destination folder. You can delete or rename the folder at the destination location to avoid duplicate folder name issues that may arise at the time to retrying the copy folder operation.
  7. Click Done once the copy operation is complete.

Note:
  • Files and folder links are not copied while copying the folder structure.
  • Library folder and subfolders can be copied into the library folder and subfolders only. Similarly, the general folder and subfolders can be copied only into the general folder and subfolders. You cannot copy library folder and subfolders into general folders, and vice versa.
