Using Revit 3D Views in Workshop XR

Whether you're new to Revit or a seasoned user, 3D views are a powerful concept that can greatly enhance your design and visualization experience. In Revit, 3D views are associated with .RVT files, providing a dynamic way to interact with your models. For more detailed information on these file types, check out the Revit Help Article.

What is a 3D View?

In the context of Workshop XR, here's what you need to know about 3D views:

  • Model Representation: A 3D view is essentially a model. It can include the entire design or just a specific subset.
  • Seamless integration: In Revit, a 3D view is associated and nested within a Revit Model. These 3D views then seamlessly load within Workshop XR to view in headset.
  • Design & Visualization: 3D views are integral to the design and visualization process in Revit.

Benefits of Using 3D Views in Workshop XR

Leveraging 3D views in Workshop XR brings numerous advantages:

  • Efficient Reviews: Seamlessly switch between different views to make your review sessions more efficient.
  • Focused Areas: Create specific areas of focus when hosting reviews.
  • Customized VR Experience: Remove any geometry you don’t want to see in VR for a cleaner workspace.
  • Meeting Preparation: Prep for meetings by setting up desired views before diving into VR.
  • Model Segmentation: Segment larger models to avoid creating disjointed models, making them easier to handle.

How to Reference 3D Views Appropriately

Throughout the design process, 3D models are created. To verify your 3D views are referenced correctly in Workshop XR, follow these steps:

  1. Create a 3D View in Revit: Start by setting up your 3D view within your Revit model.
