Avatars

Autodesk Workshop XR uses Meta Avatars to represent VR users in collaborative meetings, enhancing the real-life experience as you explore and review your designs.

Height

The Avatar Height feature affects how others see your avatar inside the WXR experience. It allows you to adjust your Avatar's height and uniformly scale your Avatar to match your height in real-life.

Select your Height

Every time you enter a workshop, you have the option to select your height and edit any elements of your avatar. Once set, the height is stored for future workshops.

A best practice is to select your real height each time you enter a workshop. We use this height to scale your avatar and tailor the experience accordingly.

If you do not select your height, Meta Avatars are set to a default height of 5’9”.

Avatar Height vs Head Height

In VR, what you see represents your head’s position in your physical space. If you are 5’5” and standing while in VR, your point of view (POV) in VR will be at 5’5”. Similarly, if you are seated, your POV will be lower and reflect the height of your head in a seated position.

Behaviors

Avatars exhibit a few behaviors as they move about the workshop:

  • Sit: If you are seated in your real space, your avatar will enter the workshop seated on a small chair. When you move around the workshop, the avatar will stand to walk, and the chair will reappear when you are still.
  • Stand: If you are standing in your real space, your avatar will also be standing.
  • Fly: In the workshop, when using the “fly up” movement, the avatar will fly above the space to move around. All avatars “fly” when in 1:1 mode. Currently, when seated, the avatar’s legs may appear below the ground – simply press the fly-up button to bring the avatar up and review the space as desired.
  • Height Change: When adjusting your height the avatar will uniformly scale to show that height. An avatar set at a taller height may look larger in scale, where an avatar at a shorter height will look smaller in scale.

Headset Sharing

We understand that headsets are sometimes shared between multiple people. If you use a shared headset, the avatar is linked to the headset and will not change based on who is logged into Workshop XR with their Autodesk account.

Meta does not offer a “generic” avatar solution for shared headsets. However, a variety of "preset" avatars are available to choose from within their editor, if these suit your needs.

When switching headsets, we still recommend selecting the user’s exact height either upon entering the workshop or within settings: A screenshot showing the Avatar height settings
