Autodesk Workshop XR Settings Guide

This guide will help you understand the settings of Workshop XR, so you can customize your experience to your liking.

Performance

  • Show Transparent Objects (on/off): Show transparent model objects. Enabling will show all transparent model objects. Disabling this feature may improve performance.

  • Geometry Optimization (Low/Medium/High): Increasing optimization helps users prioritize more geometry loaded for lower visual quality. Decimated geometry reduces the polygon count while attempting to retain the same general shape.

    Preferences

  • Avatar Height: Before entering a workshop, you will be required to select your Avatar’s Height. In settings, you can adjust the height, which affects how others see your avatar.

  • Units: Choose between Imperial and Metric Units when using the measurement took in Workshop XR.

  • Dominant Hand (Left / Right): This setting enables you to select your preferred hand for primary engagements in the virtual environment. By doing so, the layout of buttons, the position of the clock, as well as the placement of tools are adjusted accordingly to suit your dominant hand.

  • Controller Labels (on / touch / off): You can choose to have labels on your controllers all the time (on), only when touched (touch), or not at all (off). This helps new users understand controls better and can be turned off once you're comfortable.

  • Haptics (on or off): Haptics provide feedback through vibrations. Feel the buzz in your controllers with this feature turned on. If you wish to extend your battery life, you can turn haptics off.

  • UI Sounds (On or Off): With this setting, you control the sound effects within the app. You can choose to have them on for a more immersive experience or turn them off for a quieter environment.

  • 24-hour time: Switch to the 24-hour format if that's what you're used to.

  • Console auto-repositioning: The console will follow your field of view. To have the console stay in one place as you move your field of view, toggle this setting off. The console position can always be reset by pressing and holding the console button on your left controller.

Movement

  • Teleport through walls (on/off): This feature allows you to teleport through walls within the Workshop XR environment. It's a superpower indeed!

  • Comfort Tunnel (on/off): Turning on the Comfort Tunnel setting provides a visual aid that helps reduce motion sickness during fast or long-distance movements.

  • Strafing (on/off): Enables side-to-side smooth motion. If enabled, this may cause discomfort for novice users.

  • Smooth motion speed (slow / default / fast): Adjust the speed of your movement in the virtual world to your comfort level.

  • Teleportation Distance (short / default / long): This setting lets you control how far you can teleport in one go. This can help reduce motion sickness and increase comfort.

  • Fly up/down Increments (short / default / long): Adjust the increments for flying up or down. Choose from short, default, or long depending on your preference.

Device Storage

  • A visual bar to show how much storage is available on your device

    • In case of low storage space, stored data from earliest opened files will be automatically cleared from the device to make space for new ones.
  • Manually cache clearance: Clears all model cache from device storage. May cause a temporary lag in performance.

  • Version: This shows the current version of Workshop XR you're using. We recommend always updating to the latest version for the best experience.
