Issue:

How to create a 3D sketch spiral or helix in Fusion.

Solution:

Fusion does not have a sketch tool to automatically create a 3D spiral or helix. This is the most common workflow to create a 3D sketch helix or spiral:

  1. Go to Create > Coil and set the desired diameter.
  2. Change the section shape to "Triangular (Internal)" and the section position to "Outside." This will set the inner edge of the triangular spiral to match up with your desired dimensions.
  3. Enter the rest of the information for the spiral. Coils can be defined by setting revolution and height, revolution and pitch, or height and pitch. When complete, click OK to create the coil body.
  4. Go to Sketch > Project/Include > Include 3D Geometry.
  5. Select any plane (it doesn't matter which plane is picked for the sketch plane) and select the inner edge to create a 3D sketch object, then click OK. Click "Stop Sketch" to exit out of the sketch.

The spiral sketch object will be purple, which indicates it has a projection reference. Follow these steps to remove the reference and allow the coil body to be deleted:

  1. Turn off the visibility of the coil body.
  2. Right click the sketch spiral in the browser or timeline and select "Edit Sketch."
  3. Click the reference glyph.
    • Click the reference glyph
  4. Press delete on your keyboard. The sketch spiral should now be blue. You can then go delete the coil body.
