Issue:
Users reported that there are performance issues in Fusion Manufacturing and HSMworks while working in the CAM workspace. Symptoms could include:
- Lagging.
- Program locking up.
- Long toolpath calculation times.
- Slow CAM simulations.
- Partial black screen.
- Crashes or program shuts down.
Causes:
Large file size can be defined as a complex design, a design including many or large CAM operations. It does not depend on the actual size of the model. A large toolpath occurs when the toolpath requires many passes.Solution:
Best practices when working with large files in the CAM workspace:
- Verify the system meets the System requirements for Autodesk Fusion and consider the recommended specifications. Tool path generation and simulation are multi-threaded operations that will benefit from an increase in core count and tool path calculation can improve with an increased RAM memory.
- Consider the size of the tool relative to the model. The smaller the tool is compared to the overall size of the model, the more passes will be required to machine the part.
- "In Process Stock" is on by default in Fusion and can cause performance issues on files with heavy performance simulations. Turn this off to improve performance in Manufacture.
- Organize the CAM operations and browser tree to reduce file sizes: Managing the CAM Browser in Fusion for large machining sequences
- Set up the CAM operations with consideration to the key parameters effecting toolpath generation and size for better performance: Optimizing toolpath generation in the Fusion CAM workspace
- Simulating large toolpaths can be computationally intensive. For tips on simulating sizable tool paths: Slow performance, freezing, and hangs in CAM Simulations of Fusion
- Complex models with threads may also slow down the CAM workspace: Slow performance in Fusion when using modeled threads in a file
