An imported DWG/DXF file is missing dimensions and text in Fusion

Technical Support

Issue:

Users reported that after importing a DWG/DXF file to Fusion, the file is missing dimensions and text/notes. It might be missing the complete layer of text/numbers from the original file.

Causes:

Fusion only imports the following geometry from DXF/DWG files:

  • Solids.
  • Curves.
  • Surfaces.
  • Polygon meshes.

Solution:

Try the following solution:

  1. Open file in the original CAD program used to export DXF/DWG.
  2. Explode dimensions or texts into curve and line objects.
  3. Export/save file again as DWG or DXF.
  4. Upload into Fusion.

Note: It is helpful to separate text and dimensions into different layers when creating the DWG, as these will come in as separate sketches in Fusion.
