Unable to open a recovery file after a crash in Fusion

Technical Support

Issue:

Users reported that after Fusion crashes, an autosaved recovery file cannot be opened from the File Recovery dialog box. One of the following behaviors can be seen:
  • The file will not open.
  • The file does not seem to appear within the list of the files that can be recovered.
  • Fusion crashes shortly after opening the recovery file.
  • Fusion hangs and shows "not responding" shortly after opening the recovery file.

Solution:

Recover the file manually

  1. Go to the folder with the recovery files (<GUID> is a sequence of letters and numbers):
    • Windows: %appdata%\Local\Autodesk\Autodesk Fusion 360\<GUID>\CrashRecovery
    • macOS: Macintosh HD/Users/username/Library/Application Support/Autodesk/Autodesk Fusion 360/<GUID>/CrashRecovery
  1. Change the extension of the recovery file from BACKUP to F3D.
  2. Upload the recovery file in the data panel in Fusion.
  3. (Optional) Overwrite the last version of the file by using the option File -> Save As.

Check for the local cache files manually

  1. Go to the folder
    • Windows: C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Autodesk\Autodesk Fusion 360\<GUID>\W.login\F
    • macOS: Macintosh HD/Users/username/Library/Application Support/Autodesk/Autodesk Fusion 360/<GUID>/W.Login
  2. Checked for the date and missing files.
  3. Copy those files to any local folder.
  4. Upload / Open that file in the data panel in Fusion.
