Insert designs

Learn how to insert designs into an assembly in Fusion.

  1. In the Design workspace, select Solid > Insert > Insert Component insert component icon.

    The Insert Component dialog displays.

  2. In the Insert Component dialog, navigate to and select the Fusion design you want to insert.

  3. Click Insert.

The selected design is inserted into the current design as an external component and the Initial Position dialog displays.

  4. Position the component:

    • In the canvas, use the manipulators to drag the component.
    • In the Initial Position dialog, enter Distance and Angle values.
  5. Click OK to finish positioning the component.

The design is inserted as an external component. An instance of the external component displays in the Browser. An Insert feature displays in the Timeline. The external component instance is associatively linked to the source design.

Note: If you use Milestones, the latest milestone is inserted. If you're working in a hub with collaborative editing, keep in mind that Milestones have been renamed to Versions, and the lastest Version will be inserted. Check for this icon collaborative editing next to the hub name to confirm collaborative editing is available.
Tip: In the Data Panel, locate and right-click the design you want to insert and select Insert into Current Design. Move the external component to the desired location.
