Machining Type

Use the Machining Type group to specify what type of machining operation you want to perform. Depending on the machining type you select, various additional settings appear in the Multi-Axis tab.

Note: You require access to the Fusion Manufacturing Extension to create multi-axis toolpaths.

Machining type

Depending on the operation, the machining type options available are:

  • 3-Axis - Useful for machining surfaces that the tool can reach easily without performing tilting motion when cutting. For 3+2 machining, use the Tool orientation group in the Multi-Axis tab.
  • 5-Axis - Useful for machining complex geometry that requires the tool to tilt to access certain areas. Selecting this option displays additional settings to control the tilting motion of the tool.
  • Wrap - Wraps the toolpath around a cylinder to machine enclosed cylindrical surfaces. Useful for machining areas that are unreachable with 3-axis machining. Requires a machine that has 4-axis capability. Selecting this option displays additional settings related to Wrap.
  • 4-Axis - Useful for machining features on cylindrical parts.
