Connect a machine

Connect your physical machine on the shop floor to its corresponding Machine Profile in Fusion Machine Connect.

Set up a data collection connection

If you have already created a machine profile:

  1. On the machines page, click the machine you want to connect.
  2. On the machine profile page, click the Connection details tab.
  3. In the Data collection section, click Set up connection.
  4. Choose a Gateway from the list to connect to, then click Next.
  5. Choose the corresponding Machine Controller type that matches the physical machine on the shop floor.
  6. Choose the corresponding Connection type from the list.
  7. Depending on the Connection type, specify additional details:
    • Fanuc FOCAS:
      • Path: Enter the network location of the file share. This is the root directory for file transfers.
    • OPC UA:
      • Server name: Enter the specific server name running on the network address.
      • Set machine credentials: Check to show text fields for machine authentication, then enter your user name and password for the machine.
    • Heidenhain DCOM:
      • CNC type: Choose a machine type from the list.
      • Protocol: Select a connection protocol type from the list.
    • Haas Classic:
      • COM Port: Enter the serial COM port to which the CNC machine is connected.
      • Baud rate: Select the rate of data transfer for your machine.
      • Number of bits: Select the number of bits used to represent one character.
      • Stop bits: Select the number of stop bits.
      • Parity: Select the parity bit.
      • Flow control: Select the method for which the serial connection controls the amount of data transmitted.
      • Preset: Sets the MTConnect configuration with a preset.
  8. For all connection types except the Haas Classic, enter the connection details:
    • Address: Enter the network IP address or host name of the connection.
    • Port: Enter the network port number of the connection.
  9. Click Next.
  10. Review the connection settings and click Finish.

Set up a file transfer connection

  1. On the machines page, click the machine you want to connect.
  2. On the machine profile page, click the Connection details tab.
  3. In the File transfer section, click Set up connection.
  4. Choose a Gateway from the list to connect to, then click Next.
  5. Choose a Connection type from the list and specify associated details:
    • File Share
      • Path
      • (Optional) Set machine credentials
    • Generic Serial
      • COM Port
      • Baud rate
      • Number of bits
      • Stop bits
      • Parity
      • Flow control
    • FTP Client
      • Path
      • Address
      • Port
  6. Click Next.
  7. Review the connection settings and click Finish.
