Create a mesh section sketch

Use the Create Mesh Section Sketch tool to create a sketch that contains a section line where a plane intersects a mesh body, in order to reverse-engineer a mesh in Fusion.

create mesh section sketch example

  1. In the Design workspace, on the Mesh tab, select Create > Create Mesh Section Sketch create mesh section sketch icon.

The Create Mesh Section Sketch dialog displays.

  2. In the canvas, select a mesh body to create the section sketch from.

  3. Select a Section Plane to create the section sketch on.

If the section plane intersects the body, an orange section line displays at the intersection.

  4. Adjust the position of the section plane:

    • In the canvas, adjust the Distance and Angle manipulator handles.
    • In the dialog, expand Numerical Inputs and specify exact Distance and Angle values.
  5. Click OK.

The mesh section line displays on the mesh body in the canvas. The new mesh section sketch displays in the Sketches folder in Browser, and it contains a Mesh Section. A new Sketch feature displays in the Timeline.

Tips

  • Create a series of mesh section sketches to reverse-engineer complex mesh bodies.
  • Edit each section sketch and use the Fit Curves To Mesh Section tool to generate a series of sketch profiles. You can use the sketch profiles to create parametric solid and surface bodies to recreate the design.
  • Right-click the feature in the Timeline and select Edit Feature to edit adjust its settings.
