Tutorial: Additive process simulation
Fusion Manufacturing Extension
This feature is part of an extension. Extensions are a flexible way to access additional capabilities in Fusion. Learn more.
This tutorial lets you set up and solve a Process Simulation study for a part manufactured using MPBF (metal powder bed fusion). Solving a process simulation helps predict displacement, which is how much the part is expected to warp during the additive manufacturing process. Process simulation can also predict the risk of recoater jams and interlayer temperatures.
Process simulation results showing predicted displacement of the part
In this tutorial, you:
- Open the part file, create a setup selecting an additive machine with MPBF capability and a print setting, position the part on the build platform, then create supports.
- Create a Process Simulation study for the part, refine the mesh settings for the study, then generate a preliminary mesh.
- Solve the Process Simulation study, interpret the results, create a warped
.stl
to compare against real world prints, and create a compensated.stl
file to automatically correct part warpage.
Prerequisites
- Purchased access to the Fusion Manufacturing Extension.
