Fill confidence result
The Fill confidence result shows the likelihood of plastic filling a region within the cavity, under the specified injection molding conditions.
Fill confidence
There are four possible outcomes from a Fill confidence result that indicate the likelihood of the cavity filling under the specified conditions:
- Easy to fill
- Difficult to fill, or may have quality problems
- Unlikely to fill, or will have quality problems
- Will not fill
As the percentage of yellow or red increase, the molding difficulty increases and the part quality decreases.
Things to look for
Colors other than green indicate that you may have problems filling the cavity, or there may be problems with the quality of molded part. Note the location of these other colors - if orange/yellow areas occur where mechanical strength in not needed, or where the quality of the surface appearance is unimportant, they may be of no concern.
Using this result
A good quality part is determined not only by whether the cavity will fill, but also by whether it is adequately packed with plastic. When determining whether a good quality part can be molded, consider which colors are visible and how much of each color appears. You should also look at the Quality Prediction result.
If there are gray areas, indicating that the cavity does not fill (short shots), make changes to the design, injection location, choice of plastic, or processing conditions.
If there are yellow/orange or red areas, it may be that the temperature in those areas was too low as the plastic flowed through them. The temperature at the flow front is one factor used to determine the confidence that the cavity will fill.
Next steps
There are a number of ways to improve the confidence of areas filling, and ensure that part quality is acceptable:
- Alter the part thickness - low melt temperature can be caused by hesitation. To avoid hesitation, increase the thickness of problem areas.
- Change the injection location - move the injection location closer to the problem area, or add additional injection points. This will increase the likelihood of all sections of the cavity filling and being of acceptable quality.
- Alter the processing conditions of the selected material - to improve the fill confidence, increase the melt temperature of the current material.
- Select a different material - select a material with a higher melt temperature.
