Bounding solid

Use the Bounding Solid tool to create a solid body in the shape of a box, cylinder, or tube that encloses a selected component, body, or group of bodies. Fusion automatically places this body in a new component in your design, which you can use across workspaces.

Manufacturing workflows

You can already define stock through modes in the Setup dialog, such as Relative Size Box or Fixed Size Cylinder. However, these stock definitions are limited to the Manufacture workspace and can't be used elsewhere in the design.

A bounding solid provides an alternative way to define stock geometry. You can create a bounding solid in the Design workspace and select it as the stock when creating a setup in the Manufacture workspace. Using a bounding solid enables you to:

  • Position stock in a fixture, such as a vise, and use joints to accurately clamp the stock.
  • Measure stock dimensions, making it easier to include information in a Bill of Materials (BOM).
