Create a base feature

Create Base Feature adds a base feature in the Timeline. All operations performed on the design while in a base feature are not recorded in the Timeline. Some operations are recorded in the Browser.

Use a base feature to perform operations on your design that you do not want recorded in the timeline.

  1. In the Design workspace, Solid tab, select Create > Create Base Feature create base feature icon.

A base feature element is placed in the timeline.

  2. Create one or more features within the base feature. Feature nodes are added to the browser. Only the base feature element displays in the timeline.

Note: Feature operations affect only members of the base feature. They do not act upon features outside the base feature.
  3. When you are finished adding features, click Finish Base Feature to return to the parametric design.

You can edit a base feature. However, because no record of the operations persists, you can't edit a feature's parameters after creating it.

The edit operations available from the feature browser node context are:

  • Move/Copy - accessed from the Browser, the object type default is Faces. Accessed from the Toolbar, the object type default is Bodies.
  • Create Selection Set
  • Dissolve - preserves the body in the base feature element and eliminates the browser node.
  • Delete
  • Find in Window

Suppressing or deleting a base feature affects all operations within that feature.
