In Fusion, there are several features to help facilitate collaboration in distributed designs.
00:09
These are Design Reservation, Avatars, and Reservation Badges.
00:15
These features assist team members working on the same design at the same time and help prevent design conflicts.
00:23
Design Reservation is a collaboration feature that reserves designs while a project member edits them.
00:30
By default, Design Reservation is enabled for teams with two or more members.
00:35
An Administrator can select or deselect Design Reservation in Fusion Hub.
00:41
First, click your profile icon and open My Profile, then click Admin.
00:47
On the Team Settings tab, under Collaboration, select or deselect the Design Reservation setting.
00:53
An Avatar is a set of initials in a colored circle that represents a project member
00:58
and indicates when a project member has a design open.
01:02
Open a design, and your Avatar shows on the Data Panel thumbnail.
01:07
When another project member opens a design, their Avatar shows in the same location,
01:12
as well as on the active document tab.
01:15
Place the cursor over the avatar in the Data Panel, Browser,
01:19
or active document tab to view the name of each design that is open or reserved by a team member within the assembly.
01:26
For example, the Reciprocating Saw Assembly and the Internal Parts Assembly are open.
01:32
Your Avatar indicates that you have both designs open.
01:36
Another project member also has the same designs open to work on another part.
01:42
The other team member opens the Connecting Rod and begins editing and this part is now reserved.
01:48
A Reservation Badge is a white dot in the lower right corner of an Avatar that indicates a project member is editing a design
01:56
and is applied when a savable change is made.
01:59
If you are working on a design and make a savable change,
02:03
you will also see an asterisk next to the design name on the active document tab.
02:07
When you edit a design, all project members see your Reservation Badge on the design thumbnail in the Data Panel,
02:15
next to the external component in the Browser,
02:15
When you edit a design, all project members see your Reservation Badge on the design thumbnail in the Data Panel,
02:15
next to the external component in the Browser,
02:18
and on the active document tab on the Application bar.
02:22
This informs all project members that you are editing the design.
02:27
Placing the cursor over the Avatar in the Data Panel shows the project member’s name.
02:32
Now, you add a decal to the side of the Saw Body.
02:36
As soon as a savable change is made,
02:39
Fusion reserves the design, and the Reservation Badge is applied to your Avatar.
02:44
Notice that the other user is still editing the Connecting rod
02:48
and has made a savable change to the part.
02:50
Placing the pointer over the Edit in Place icon displays a warning that the Connecting rod cannot be edited.
02:57
Once the other user saves their changes, the Reservation Badge is removed soon after.
03:03
Once the design is closed, the Avatar is removed from the Browser,
03:08
the Data Panel, and from the active document tab.
03:11
Because the Connecting Rod was edited and is linked as an external component the component is out of date.
03:17
The out-of-date icon shows on the Application bar, in the Browser next to the default component,
03:23
and in the Browser next to the external component itself.
03:23
The out-of-date icon shows on the Application bar, in the Browser next to the default component,
03:23
and in the Browser next to the external component itself.
03:27
You can update the changes by clicking the out-of-date icon on the Application bar to get all the latest revisions.
03:34
Optionally, you can right-click the component in the Browser and select Update External References,
03:40
which will update multiple out-of-date external components at once.
03:44
You can also right-click a single component directly and select Get Latest Version.
03:50
Once updated, the changes show up in the context of the assembly and you can continue working.
03:56
Saving your changes removes the Reservation Badge, and closing the design, removes the avatar.
04:03
Now you can identify team members working in a design in real time
04:07
by using Design Reservation, Avatars, and Reservation Badges.
