Activity 4: Add Manage properties to a drawing

In this activity, you'll configure the drawing you created for the Wireless Speaker to contain Manage properties.

Note: You may already have drawing templates configured in your site and you may have used one to create the drawing in Activity 1. This activity will show you how you can add Manage properties to a drawing's title block but you can decide where to place them and whether you incorporate them into drawing templates moving forward.
Important: It is assumed that you are performing these tutorials in your production environment. Therefore, we recommend that you read through the relevant help pages and activities so that you know what the result will be before creating or modifying anything.

Prerequisites

You must complete Activity 1 in this tutorial so that you have a drawing with an assigned item number.

Steps

  1. Edit the title block to include sections for Manage properties for the drawing and model.

    1. Highlight the title block. Right-click the title block, then select Edit Title Block.

    2. Add text to a section of the title block where you'd like to add Manage properties from the model that says Model properties.

    3. Add text to a section of the title block where you'd like to add Manage properties for the drawing that says DWG props.

  2. Add Manage properties for the drawing to the title block.

    1. From the Create menu, select Attribute attribute button.

    2. Click the location on the drawing where you want to place the attribute.

    3. In the Attribute dialog, from the Type drop-down list, select Drawing.

    4. From the Attribute drop-down list, select Drawing Number.

    5. Repeat for additional Manage attributes for the drawing: Revision, Lifecycle, State.

  3. Add Manage properties for the model to the title block.

    1. From the Create menu, select Attribute.

    2. Click the location on the drawing where you want to place the attribute.

    3. In the Attribute dialog, from the Type drop-down list, select Manage.

    4. From the Attribute drop-down list, select Item Number.

    5. Repeat for additional manage attributes for the model: Revision, Lifecycle, State.

      Your final title block may look something like this.

  4. Close the Attribute dialog, then click Finish Title Block.

  5. Update the properties to reflect current Manage property values.

    1. Save the drawing.

    2. From the Manage tab, click Refresh.

      The drawing now displays the current Manage attributes for the model and drawing.

In this activity, you configured the drawing to contain Manage properties for both the drawing and its associated model.
