Activity 1: Use a quick release to release to Pre-Production

In this activity, you'll discover the possible lifecycle states an item can have and describe what they mean. You'll then send a component through a quick release for pre-production.

Important: It is assumed that you are performing these tutorials in your production environment. Therefore, we recommend that you read through the relevant help pages and activities so that you know what the result will be before creating or modifying anything.

Prerequisites

Before you can complete this activity, you must complete Tutorial 1 so that you have a component to work with.

Steps

  1. Familiarize yourself with the lifecycle of an item and how that is governed by a workflow.

    1. Read more about workflow and lifecycle management.

    2. Read up on quick releases.

      These topics provide details on the lifecycle of an item and the purpose and result of a quick release.

  2. Observe the current Manage properties of the Speaker Body Main Brace component.

    1. Open the Fusion desktop client.

    2. Open the Wireless Speaker.

    3. From the Browser, right-click the Speaker Body Main Brace component and select Properties.

    4. Scroll down to the Manage section.

      Notice the Lifecycle as Unreleased and State is Working.

  3. Send the Speaker Body Main Brace component through a quick release.

    1. From the Browser, highlight the Speaker Body Main Brace component.

    2. From the Manage tab, click Quick Release.

    3. In the Quick Release window, click Submit.

    4. Wait for the process to complete, then close the window.

  4. Observe the updated Manage properties of the Speaker Body Main Brace component.

    1. Open the properties for the Speaker Body Main Brace component.

    2. Scroll down to the Manage section.

      Notice now that the Lifecycle as Pre-Production, its Revision is 1, and there is no Change Order link.

In this activity you discovered the possible lifecycle states an item can have and what they mean, as well as the purpose and result of a quick release. You then sent a component through a quick release for pre-production and viewed the Manage properties of the model.
