Bring detailed designs from an AutoCAD Civil 3D drawing into your model by linking it as a data source. Alternatively, you can link to an IMX file exported from Civil 3D.
Note: Adding Civil 3D data to a model using a DWG file requires AutoCAD Civil 3D installed locally on your machine or network. Alternatively, you can add data sourced from an IMX file created from the DWG file. See
To link to an Autodesk IMX file as a data source.
- Click .
- Open the pull-down menu for .
- Select Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D DWG to identify the data source and open the Select Files panel.
- Browse to the location of the AutoCAD Civil 3D drawing (filename.dwg), and open it.
- Choose the data source types to bring into the model at this time and click OK.
The settings shown in the example above will source all available types at this time, except the drainage objects (Pipes and Structures).
The Data Sources panel updates, adding each data type under its feature category.
Note: Before refreshing the newly linked road data, avoid bringing in duplicate roads. If a Civil 3D drawing was created by opening the current
InfraWorks model in Civil 3D, when you bring the road data back into the model,
InfraWorks brings in ALL of the alignments present in the DWG, which results in duplicates of the roads already present in the current model.
To avoid duplicate roads, before you refresh the sourced data:
- Create a new proposal.
- In the new proposal, delete the design roads you plan to bring in from the Civil 3D drawing.
- Right-click Roads in the Data Sources panel and select Configure to open the list of roads being added.
- Turn on only the design roads you want to bring back in from Civil 3D.
- Refresh the selected data sources from the right-click menu or click .
- Click OK.
InfraWorks displays the added data as InfraWorks features.
