Create a Rectangular Pattern of Edge Connectors

Place four of the previously created edge connector in a pattern, evenly spaced in one direction.

  1. Click the Edge Connector:1 heading in the browser to select this part. The heading and the part in the display canvas are both highlighted in blue.
  2. Click CREATE Pattern Rectangular Pattern. Note that the Objects field in the RECTANGULAR PATTERN dialog box indicates that 1 object is selected.
    1. Click the Directions button in the RECTANGULAR PATTERN dialog box.
    2. Click one of the short edges of the edge connector to indicate the pattern direction. Two direction arrows appear near a corner of the edge connector, as shown in the following image:

    3. Click and drag the Y-direction arrow towards the opposite side of the circuit board. Note that the pattern defaults to three items in this direction, which must change to four after specifying the pattern distance.
    4. Type 3.75 in the distance field.
    5. Press Tab to jump to the number of objects field and type 4.
    6. Press Enter (or click OK) to complete the Rectangular Pattern command. Since we did not grab the X-direction arrow or specify a distance in that direction, the pattern is created in a single direction. Note that three more instances of the Edge Connector part have been added to the browser.
  3. Click the Activate Model radio button to the right of the Circuit Board heading at the top of the browser. With the assembly active, none of the parts will be displayed using transparency.
    • Click in the display canvas background to clear the current selection.
  4. In the QAT, click Save.

This completes the construction of the Circuit Board model. The model appears as shown below.

  5. If you are going to proceed directly to the Mesh Circuit Board CAD Model tutorial, leave SimStudio Tools running with the Circuit Board model loaded. Just minimize the window and proceed to the meshing tutorial.
Note: Normally, you could transfer the model immediately into Autodesk Simulation Mechanical. However, for the analysis that will follow, we must change the CAD import options within Simulation Mechanical prior to opening the CAD model. We will do that during the Mesh Circuit Board CAD Model tutorial.
    • Alternatively, if you are not continuing to the subsequent meshing tutorial, close the SimStudio Tools application.
