About pre-touch point probe compensation

Pre-touch point probe compensation enables you to specify the direction of probe compensation by taking a fresh-air point before taking points on the part. Use it when you are unable to orientate the probe towards the feature you want to measure.

The way in which you use pre-touch points depends on the item to be probed:

In both cases, PowerInspect determines the direction of probe compensation by calculating the vector between the touch point and the fresh-air point.

To use pre-touch points to determine the direction of probe compensation:

  1. Click Tools tab > Machine panel > Track.

The Co-ordinates dialog is displayed. For example:

  2. Select the Pre-touch button to activate the pre-touch function.
  3. Take a point on the fresh-air side of the first touch point.
  4. Measure the feature as normal by taking the required number of points on the part's surface.

When you have finished, deselect the Pre-touch button to deactivate the pre-touch function.
