To select features in the model

You can select individual features, or multiple features. Make feature classes selectable to select features within the desired feature classes. Make feature classes unselectable if you do not wish to select them.

Make Features Selectable

  • Click model explorer to open the Model Explorer.
  • Click the lock next to any feature class you wish to make selectable. Note: Features in a model are selectable when the unlocked is displayed next to the corresponding feature class in the Model Explorer.

Select one feature

  • Unlock any feature class you wish to make selectable.
  • Set the selection mode.
  • Left-click the feature in the model.

Select multiple features or add features to a selection set

Hold down the Ctrl key as you left-click the features to add. The selection set can include features of different types.

Select all members of a feature class or subset

  • Right-click a feature class or subset in the Model Explorer and click Select All.
  • Select a feature class in the Data Sources Panel, and click select data source features to Select Data Source Features.

Select all features in the model

Right-click in the Model Explorer and choose Select All from the context menu, or press Ctrl + A.

Select all visible features

Zoom to display the features you want in your selection. Click select glyph select visible

Select features within a feature class using an expression

Right-click the feature class or subset in Model Explorer and click Select By Filter. In the Create Attribute Filter dialog box, create an expression to evaluate properties or to specify a location. Click OK to create the selection set.

Note: If you create a property-based expression, only the properties for the current feature class are available.

Select features across feature classes using an expression

Click select glyph filter select. In the Create Attribute Filter dialog box, create an expression to evaluate properties or to specify a location. Click OK to create the selection set.

Note: If you create a property-based expression, only the properties that are common to all feature classes are available.

To zoom to the current selection

Select the feature(s) to display. Click select glyph zoom to selection or press F.

To automatically zoom to the extents of selection sets

From the Views menu in the Toolbar, click gear to display the View Options panel, click interaction to display the Interaction tab, and select Automatic Zoom To Selection. As long as this option is active, it remains in effect for the view.

Make features unselectable

In the Model Explorer, toggle the padlock next to the desired feature class until it displays locked for that feature class.

Note: Features in a model are unselectable when the locked is displayed next to the corresponding feature class in the Model Explorer.

Deselect all selected features

Press Esc.
