Exercise 2: Create a Point Of Interest

Draw attention to an aspect of your proposal.

Insert a Point Of Interest (POI) at the ending point of the road, to draw attention to that area. A POI can include a tooltip with text, graphics, and hyperlinks. You can also set the proximity distance--how close the viewer must be to see the tooltip. This distance uses the Unit Of Measure for the POI.
Note: Click Unit Configuration to change Unit of Measurement for you model.

To create a Point Of Interest

  1. Double-click to zoom into the ending point of the road.
  2. Sketch the Point Of Interest.
    • Click
    • Click to select the desired POI style from the draw style catalog that appears, then close the catalog.
    • Double-click the location for the Point Of Interest.
    • Press Escape to exit creation mode. The POI is automatically selected
    • Drag the elevation gizmo up to enlarge the POI.
  3. Add a tooltip to the Point Of Interest.
    • Select the POI and click .
    • For the Proximity Distance value, specify the distance at which the tooltip becomes visible.
    • Click in the cell for the Tooltip value and click the browse button that appears.
    • Enter the text for the tooltip.

    • Click Preview to see what the tooltip will look like.

      Click the Return to Editor button on the preview to dismiss it.

    • Click OK in the Edit Tooltip dialog box, and then click Update in the Properties Palette.
  4. View the tooltip.
    • Close the Properties palette.
    • Press Escape to deselect the Point Of Interest.
    • Hover over the Point Of Interest to see the tooltip.
