To use 3D model styles

Styles that use 3D models are called instanced styles.

If you assign instanced styles to an imported feature, you can change the spacing and variance of the 3D models for those features. You cannot adjust sketched features this way. However, if you sketch a tree area and substitute 3D models for the tree objects, you can adjust their spacing with a Density slider.

To revert to the original feature

To replace a feature with an instanced model style

  1. Click to display the Style Palette.
  2. Click the 3D Model tab.
  3. If necessary, add the 3D Model as a new style.
  4. From the list of style catalogs, open the catalog containing the model you want.
  5. Click and drag an instanced model style onto a target feature in the model.

Valid target features turn green to show you can apply the instanced model style. Once you drop the model onto the target, the model refreshes and the original feature is replaced with the new model.

  1. Select the feature to which you applied the instanced model style.
  2. Click to display the Properties Palette.
  3. In the Stylization section, select the Manual Style entry.
  4. Press the Delete key to clear the field.
  5. Click Update, if Auto Update is not active.
  6. Press the Esc key to clear the selection.

To change the spacing and variance of 3D models in a style

Note: This procedure works for imported data only.
  1. Select the feature to change.
  2. Display the Properties palette.
  3. Set Spacing to define the distance between the features on a regular basis.

For a polygon feature, this is a regular grid. For a polyline feature, this is the distance between two objects along the polyline.

  4. Set Spacing Variance to define how far the position can change on a random basis.

Specify a value between 0.0 (fixed) and 1.0. The value represents the distance each 3D model can move (in meters or the user-defined unit of measurement) from its regular position.
