These instructions assume that the data is all 3D. If some of it is 2D, divide it into 2D data and 3D model content before exporting it.
There are two methods, depending on what you want to import.
To import single poles and conductors
- In AutoCAD Utility Design, switch to 3D Display.
- Export the poles and conductors to DWG format.
This creates 3D polylines for electric lines.
- In InfraWorks 360, import the DWG file as pipelines.
Even though you specify Pipelines as the Type, the horizontal elements display as wires.
- Re-import the same DWG file as pipeline connectors.
The vertical elements (poles) are imported.
- Create a style and apply it to the imported material.
Manually adjust the objects, since pole types in InfraWorks 360 and AutoCAD Utility Design are different.
To create one 3D model that represents all poles and conductors
- In AutoCAD Utility Design, switch to 3D Display.
- Export the poles and conductors to DWG format.
This creates 3D polylines for electric lines.
- Import the DWG file into Navisworks.
- From Navisworks, export the material in FBX format.
- In InfraWorks 360, import the FBX file as a 3D model.
