- Open a part file.
- On the ribbon, click Tools tab Materials and Appearances panel Material .
- In the Material Browser, in the toolbar at the bottom of the dialog box, click Manage Migrate Inventor Styles.
- In the Material Styles Migration dialog box, browse to the material (Materials.xml) or color (Colors.xml) style library to migrate. Typically, the libraries install in the Design Data folder under the product install folder.
For example, the path for a typical Windows 7 Autodesk Inventor 2012 install is: C\Users\Public\Public Documents\Autodesk\Inventor 2012\Design Data.
Tip: If you plan to migrate both custom material and custom color libraries, select the Materials library. This selection includes the Colors library in the process. If you plan to migrate only custom colors, select the Colors library.
Important: Migration of a Materials library (Materials.xml) requires a Colors library (Colors.xml).
- Specify whether to create a library from the custom content, or import that content into an existing library.
- Browse to the library location. If importing, select the library to import to. If creating a library, specify the library filename.
For example, a typical Autodesk Inventor 2014 install places the libraries (*.adsklib) in C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Autodesk\Inventor 2014\Design Data\Materials.
- Click OK. The contents migrate.
Note: Where duplicate names occur, a new material of the same name is created with a bracketed number appended, such as Metal Black (1), Metal Black (2).
Tip: When migrating large numbers of projects or documents, consider using Inventor Task Scheduler.
