When you open a release 8 cable and harness subassembly in the current version, you must migrate the Cable and Harness Library. Migration is required to support cables and the underlying data structure and to delete outdated wire definitions.
The Wire Library is automatically migrated to the current format when access to the library is required in an active cable and harness subassembly that was created in a previous version is activated. The original library is not affected, thus any other release 8 harness assemblies using that library are not affected.
If the release 8 library is stored on a server, after the first migration all other users should reference that migrated library file. For a list of wires that are deleted during the migration, see outdated_wires.xls
For the first migration of any Autodesk Inventor Cable and Harness release 8 harness assembly, the library file is written to either:
Microsoft Windows 7 and Windows 8 operating systems:
You can change the location of this file as needed.
The location is dependent on the current location of the release 8 Wire Library. If the release 8 Wire Library is located in the default location (C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor Professional 8\Cable & Harness\Content), the file is placed in the default directory for the current version. If the release 8 Wire Library is located in any folder other than the default, the migrated library file is placed in the same location, but with the new name. If your file was stored in the default location, Autodesk recommends moving it to a different location so that the file can be property managed.
If an Autodesk Inventor Cable and Harness release 8 Wire Library is migrated, the following updates occur:
When other harness assemblies are in-place activated after the original library is migrated, the system prompts you to do one of the following:
If the release 8 Wire Library file referenced by the active harness assembly is migrated, by default the library file that results is placed in the same directory as the harness assembly. If the migration is canceled, then the library is not migrated at that time. The system continues to prompt you as listed above each time you try to save the harness assembly, or modify and save the Cable and Harness library.
