Export objects to be derived

You can mark the specific objects that you wish to expose for derive in the base file. While the derive feature can mark the objects implicitly, a user creating the derive feature may not have write access to the base components. In such workflows, the authors of the base components should export objects that they expect to be derived. For example, a user parameter or sketch can be marked for export in the source file prior to the derive operation.

  1. On the ribbon, click Manage tab Author panel Export Objects .
  2. In the Export Objects dialog box, select one or more objects to export and click Export at the top of the dialog box. Each selected object gains an arrow status icon. Alternatively, you can click this icon to toggle the status of an individual object in the tree.
  3. If you change an object's status so that it is no longer exported, referencing objects fail. Use the Design Doctor to repair the errors.
