In this portion of the tutorial, you add a new material to the document.

On the Tools tab Material and Appearance panel Materials . The Material Browser displays.
The Material Browser has two sections:
- Document Materials, upper section
- Library Materials, lower section
- The new material can be made from an existing one. In the library section, if not already selected, select Inventor Material Library.

In the library list, on the right, scroll to locate Steel - Mild. Double click the material in the list.
The material is added to the document and opened in the Material Editor.
- In the Material Editor, change the material name to Steel - Test.
- Before continuing, in the Asset section, select the structural asset. Note the properties making up the material listed in the pane below. When making new materials you can modify some properties, others are determined by the material Type and Class to which the asset is assigned.
In addition, the new material is not currently saved in the part file. If you close the part without saving, this new material is lost.
