Migrate files from previous release

Before you begin

  1. Back up all files used in your designs: part (.ipt), assembly (.iam), presentation (.ipn), drawing (.idw, .dwg), and iFeatures (.ide).
  2. To access files stored on a server, you can map the network drive locally or user UNC path directly.
  3. Verify that your files resolve and open correctly in the existing version of Autodesk Inventor. Before you proceed, repair resolution and general problems.
  4. If you defined one or more custom projects instead of using the Default project, complete the following steps:
    • Start your new version of Autodesk Inventor.
    • On the ribbon, click Tools tab Options panel Application Options Files tab.
    • In Projects Folder, verify that the appropriate project is specified.
    • Close the dialog box. On the Get Started tab, Launch panel, click Projects. The projects dialog box lists your projects and guarantees that the project file is available in the migration dialog box.
  5. Close all versions of Autodesk Inventor.

Migrate files

  1. In the Autodesk Inventor Task Scheduler window, click Migrate Files .

The information in the task list switches to show any migrate files tasks that you saved previously.

  2. In the Autodesk Inventor Task Scheduler window, right-click, and select Create Task Migrate Files.
  3. In the Migrate Files dialog box, in Project, specify the active project.

If a vault project is active, then files are migrated from the vault. If a non vault project is active, then files are migrated from the local hard drive.

  4. Click Add Files, Add Folder, or Add Project.

Add Files: Browse to and select individual files.

Add Folder: To include subfolders, click to place a check mark in the Recursive column. In the File Name Column, click the down arrow to specify one or more of the file types within the folder to migrate.

Add Project: Migrates all legacy files within the project you specify. If a project you select has a style library, unused styles with the same name or value as the style of the project are purged. The purge occurs before the migrated files are saved. This process removes most unused styles from your migrated part and assembly files, assuming that most styles were never modified.

  5. If necessary, repeat the steps to add more files and folders.
  6. Click Options. If you do not set the options, a default set of options is used, including:
    • Total Rebuild is turned Off. To enhance the performance of the application, turn on this option.
    • Skip Migrated Files is turned On in Migrate Files, Off in Update Design.
  7. In the Task Properties box, enter a task name and a time-out threshold.
  8. Specify a schedule, or select the Immediately option.
Note: You can use the Task Scheduler while you run Autodesk Inventor. For optimal performance, close all Autodesk Inventor sessions before you run a task and do not start a session while a task is running.
  9. In Log File, leave the checkbox selected for the default located in Documents and Settings\(user name)\Local Settings\Temp\Task Scheduler.log

    or

    • To overwrite the default, enter a file name to overwrite the default. If the log file does not exist, a log file unique to the task is created.
    • To find and select an existing file, click Browse.
    • To specify no log file, clear the checkbox.
  10. In the Migrate Files dialog box, click OK.

If it is the first task you create during the current session, the Authentication dialog box is displayed. Enter your Microsoft Windows log in name and password.

The task displays in the task list. You can close the Autodesk Inventor Task Scheduler window. The task runs as scheduled.

The log file reflects the success or problems in the migration.
